CHEMICAL BASIS AND CLINICAL USE OF HUMAN PLACENTAL LACTOGEN

Abstract
It is known that HPL is synthesized and stored in the syncytiotrophoblast cells of the placenta. So that the level of HPL in the maternal serum may serve in some circumstances as a sensitive and practical index of placental function. The HPL levels are also statistically predictive of high-rise of pregnancy.
The author has briefly reviewed the purification method, chemistry, measurement and biologic activities of HPL.
